The Living Legend Anupam Kher

Born with a silver spoon on March 7, 1955 Anupam Kher a Kashmiri Pandit has acted in many successful Bollywood films and has worked in several British, American and Chinese films as well. He has also worked in Punjabi films too.

In 1982 Anupam Kher made his acting debut with the movie Aagman. Then in 1984 came Saaransh, where he played a late-age retired person having lost his son and never looked back since then. He hosted TV shows such as Say Na Something To Anupam Uncle and Sawaal Dus Crore Ka.

Anupam Kher was applauded for his performance in the film Daddy (1989) for which he received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. Anupam Kher also starred in many successful films such as Lamhe, Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Chaahat, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein and Veer-Zaara.

Anupam Kher produced and starred in the film Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara which was released in 2005 and for this he also received the Best Actor Award from the Karachi International Film Festival for his performance in the film.

The actor is very well known internationally with the films Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Bride and Prejudice (2004), his appearance on the hit TV show ER, and most recently in The Mistress of Spices (2006) and Lust, Caution (2007).

Some of his upcoming and released films are Morning Walk, Tera Mera Ki Rishta, Sankat City, Gandhi Park, Yeh Mera India, Dil Bole Hadippa, Victory, Classmates and 2010 flick Mittaran Di Chattari-The Movie.

Sohail Khan

Sohail Khan was born on December 20, 1970. He is an Indian Bollywood actor, producer and director. Sohail Khan started his career as a film producer and director making his directorial debut with the 1997 action thriller Auzaar which starred his brother Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor.

Sohail then directed the super hit film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998) casting Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan and Sohail also directed the less successful Hello Brother (1999).

In 2002, Sohail Khan wrote, produced, directed and made his acting debut in Maine Dil Tujhko Diya which did not do well at the box office. Sohail then appeared in a few more films, none of which did well at the box office. He had his first hit with the film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) in which he co-starred with his brother Salman Khan.

Sohail Khan wrote the story, produced and acted in the multi-starrer Fight Club - Members Only (2006), which did not do well at the box office. His only 2007 release as an actor was the multi-starrer Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love. He then produced Partner which starred his brother Salman and Govinda in the lead roles and was a box office success.

In 2008, he has appeared in Hello and Heroes. He produce films under his banner Sohail Khan Productions. Sohail's 2009 films are Team - The Force, Kisaan. Actor's upcoming film are Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Season's Greetings, Veer and Do Knot Disturb.

Shahid Kapur

Bollywood actor Shahid Kapur is the latest recipient of the prestigious 12th Rajiv Gandhi Award after the eminent personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Mukesh Ambani,Sunita Williams and Amitabh Bachchan.

Shahid Kapur started his career by working in music videos and advertisements, Shahid Kapur made his Bollywood debut as a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's Taal in 1999.

Four years later, the young actor made his debut as a lead in Ishq Vishk (2003) and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. Following through with acclaimed performances in films like Fida (2004) and Shikhar (2005), Shahid had his first commercial success with Sooraj R. Barjatya's Vivah (2006), his biggest commercial success so far, and followed it up with Jab We Met (2007).

Later this year, Shahid Kapur is going to appear in Anurag Singh's romantic comedy Dil Bole Hadippa alongside Rani Mukherjee and Ahmed Khan's upcoming film Paathshala. He is currently working on Ken Ghosh Chance Pe Dance opposite Genelia D'Souza.

Mithun Chakraborty

Born on June 16, 1950, Mithun Chakraborty the legendary National Film Award-winning Indian film actor made his acting debut with the arthouse drama Mrigaya in 1976, for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor.

During the 1980s, Mithun had earned a huge fan following as a dancing star and went on to establish himself as one of the most popular and leading actors of India.

Altogether Chakraborty has appeared in more than 350 Bollywood films as well as in Bengali, Oriya and Bhojpuri films. Mithun Da played some supporting roles in films such as Do Anjaane (1976) and Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan (1977) which did not gain him any recognition.

In late 1970s the actor also acted in the low budget film with Ravikant Nagaich directed spy film Surakshaa (1979) and the early 1980s with leading roles in hit films such as Hum Paanch (1980) and Wardaat (1981).

He also starred in a number of successful romantic and family dramas like Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye, Pyaar Jhukta Nahin, Swarg Se Sunder, and Pyaar Ka Mandir. He was recognised as an action hero in hit films like Wanted, Boxer, Jagir, Jaal, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Commando, Waqt Ki Awaaz, Guru, Mujrim and Dushman.

Mithun achieved not only commercial success but also tremendous critical acclaim. He was also honoured with the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his performance in Jallad. Apart from it, he was praised for his performances in films like Pyaar Ka Mandir (1988) and Mujrim (1989).

He made a comeback to the mainstream Hindi film industry in 2005 with the film Elaan which was not successful at box office. After a few supporting roles in films such as Lucky: No Time for Love (2005) he won acclaim for his performance in Kalpana Lazmi's Chingari (2005).

In 2007 he starred in Mani Ratnam's hit film Guru. Mithun has had 4 releases in 2008, My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, Don Muthu Swami, C Kkompany and Heroes. His latest releases Subhash Ghai film Yuvvraaj in which he appeared in a cameo and Chandni Chowk To China failed at the box office.

His Zor Lagaa Ke...Haiya! won 4 International awards. His upcoming films are Zindagi Tere Naam, Veer with Salman Khan, Phir Kabhi with Dimple Kapadia, Raakh, Baabarr and Kannada flick Manikya.

Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan the dynamic superhero was born on January 10, 1974. This Bollywood actor who made his debut with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai in 2000 earned Filmfare Awards for Best Actor and Best Male Debut for his brilliant performance. Mission Kashmir became the third highest grossing film and once again his performance as a youngster sucked in the vortex of terrorism was acclaimed with one critic.

Subhash Ghai's Yaadein was his first release in 2001. This was followed by Karan Johar's melodramatic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which did extremely well at the box office, becoming the second-highest grossing film of 2001 and the biggest hit overseas. Again the star was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at various award ceremonies.

Hrithik Roshan had an unsuccessful year in 2002 when all three of his releases - Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage - failed to make an impact the box office.

As an actor, he scales dizzier heights with this splendid performances. In 2004, Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya was Roshan's only release and the film did not do well at the box office. After doing Krrish, a sequel to his 2003 film Koi... Mil Gaya which released in June 2006 actor's performance earned him Best Actor awards at various award ceremonies, including Star Screen and the International Indian Film Academy.

His next film that year was Dhoom 2, won him the third Filmfare Best Actor Award. In 2008, with Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar his performance in the movie was widely appreciated by critics and the star was honoured wuth the fourth Filmfare Best Actor Award as well as his first international award for Best Actor at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival in Kazan, Russia.

Roshan recently appeared in Zoya Akhtar's Luck by Chance (2009), in which he made a special appearance. He is currently busy filming for Anurag Basu's Kites along with Mexican actress Bárbara Mori and Kangna Ranaut, and has recently signed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film titled as Guzaarish opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Ajay Devgan

The talented Bollywood actor who has also won National Film Awards, Ajay Devgan began his career as an action hero in the early 1990s. Ajay Devgan made his film debut with Phool Aur Kaante (1991) for which the actor received a Filmfare Best Debut Award. He also worked with director Deepak Bahry in the flick Ek Hi Raasta. In 1997, the actor did a comedy flick Ishq.

In 1998, he gave the biggest hit of year Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. Ajay Devgan was highly acclaimed for his performance in the film Zakhm. He won several awards for his performance, including the coveted National Film Award for Best Actor and Star Screen Award Best Actor.

The star further saw success in 1999 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which was a critical and commercial success. Devgan's performance in the film earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare.

In 2002 his performance in Rajkumar Santoshi's The Legend of Bhagat Singh won him his second National Film Award for Best Actor. In 2004, the star starred in several critically appreciated films, including Mani Ratnam's Yuva and Rituparno Ghosh's Raincoat. Neither of these projects did well at the box office.

In 2007, Devgan starred in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag which was a major failure. Ajay Devgan's first 2008 release, Halla Bol, was not a box office success, than came Sunday, which performed below average at the box office. His directorial debut, U, Me Aur Hum, with Kajol performed well at the box office and received positive reports.

Devgan's recent projects were Golmaal Returns, a sequel to Golmaal. Actor's latest projects are London Dreams, Rajneeti, Toonpur Ka Superhero, All the Best - Fun Begins, Naam and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942. Amitabh gained popularity in the early 1970s with the title of "angry young man" of Bollywood cinema, and has since become one of the most prominent figures in the history of Indian cinema.

Amitabh Bachchan has won numerous major awards in his career, including three National Film Awards and twelve Filmfare Awards. Big B holds the record for most number of Best Actor nominations at the Filmfare Awards. Amitabh Bachchan has worked as a playback singer, film producer and television presenter, and was an elected member of the Indian Parliament from 1984 to 1987.

Amitabh Bachchan made his film debut in 1969 as one of the seven protagonists in Saat Hindustani, the film was directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas that featured Utpal Dutt, Madhu and Jalal Agha. His other noted films includes Parwaana, Reshma Aur Shera, Guddi, Bawarchi. Big B saw significant development in his career in 1973 when director Prakash Mehra cast him in the leading role for the film Zanjeer. Than came Abhimaan, Namak Haraam.

In 1974, Amitabh Bachchan made several guest appearances in films such as Kunwara Baap and Dost, before playing a supporting role in the highest grossing film of that year, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan. Amitabh Bachchan also played the leading role in the crime drama Faraar and the romantic drama Mili. August 15, 1975 released film Sholay, became the highest grossing film of all time in India.

Despite of his bad health, the actor never gave up and is still the "Shahenshah" of Bollywood cinema. Amitabh also appeared in 2006 Family, Darna Zaroori Hai, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna for which he was also nominated in the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award category and same year followed with Baabul.

In 2007 he gave outstanding performances in Eklavya: The Royal Guard, Nishabd, Cheeni Kum, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom,Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and gave special appearance in Om Shanti Om.

Than in 2008 he was featured in Jodhaa Akbar, Bhoothnath, Sarkar Raj, God Tussi Great Ho, The Last Lear and this film also won him the Stardust Best Actor Award. After giving a special appearance in 2009 Delhi-6 his upcoming movies are Aladin, Johnny Mastana, Zamaanat, Talismaan, Pa and Teen Patti.
