Bhagwan Dada (1913- 4th February 2002), was an actor, producer and film director. He was well known for his social movie Albela. His real name was Bhagwan Abhaji Palav. His father was a textile mill worker. Though,he worked as a labourer but his ultimate destination was Hindi Film Industry. He always dreamt of films. Bhagwan Dada got his first break with small roles in silent films.
From 1938 to 1949,he directed many low budget movies, their genere was action. Bhagwan Dada used to play a naive simpleton. In the year 1962, he became a producer and owned Jagriti Studios, Chembur. He made a social movie named Albela on the advice of Raj Kapoor. The movie was a huge hit, it's song Shola Jo Bhadke is still remembered.
Bhagwan Dada's later life was not so good, he gave up direction, sold his cars and bungalow and shifted to a chawl. Most of his near and dear ones left him in the time of his need but his friends Om Prakash, lyricist Rajinder Krishnan and C.Ramachandran used to come to meet him even in his chawl. He died at age 89.
